Working or Living the Dream

Did you know that 1/3 of your life will be spent working? Ideally, we should be spending 1/3 of our lives in sleep or rest, but that's a conversation for another time, and the remaining 1/3 of our time is spent as we wish (play, hobbies, family time, sports games, etc.) This is why choosing an occupation is such a massive and seemingly overwhelming decision. This is why high school students agonize during the last two years of their schooling to make this decision. While it IS one of the biggest decisions in your life, it DOES NOT have to be stressful or paralyzing.

The question I have for you is this...in your career, are you doing what you love or are you just making a paycheck.

One thing that we may not think about is the fact that if you are just doing your job to make a paycheck, you are not going to do very well at your job. You still might be a hard worker and get things done, but your creativity will be stifled. When you are not excited about your job it shows in your attitude and energy and this will rub off on your team. Now I am not saying if you have the right career you will never have a bad day or a bad week. I am just saying that when you love what you do, the bad days aren’t as bad. When you are just making a paycheck the bad days are really bad. You may take a job just because you need to make money now and there is nothing wrong with that, but let’s also start trying to figure out what makes you excited to be working, find out what you are most happy doing, and then find your why.

In order to live the dream and do what you love you need these four things:

  1. Brainstorm. What brings you joy? What makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning? What activity or task fills you with energy when you are doing it and it doesn't even feel like work? What tasks fill you with purpose?

  2. Find your why. Why does this activity, task, or job fill you with purpose? Why does it bring you joy and excitement?

  3. Make money doing what you love. Once you identify your dream job and your why, it's time to make the most money you can at it. Our coaches would love to help you create a plan to make that happen. Living the dream is within reach! If you are still unclear on what your dream job is, check out the Get Clear Assessment quiz from Ken Coleman. We highly recommend his books and podcast to help you take this next step. This is where we started and this assessment has helped countless souls discover their dream.

  4. Accountability. We all need someone to help keep us on track to our goals. While you may have discovered your dream job there will still be rough days and life circumstances that try to derail your vision and progress. Connect with a freedom coach! We'd love to help you create a plan to make the most money that you can by doing what you love and cheer you on in your vision as you use your gifts to make a difference in the world.
