What if you found yourself "in the new", a state of discovery in which the life you knew before no longer exists? Your mind and body experience thoughts and behaviors that may have existed but you never noticed them before. You are fully aware that the familiar is fading. You are being called upon to settle into a new norm where the only perceived survival is to embrace the awkwardness and acquire a taste for the unique mystery of it all. This place of "new" feels lonely, disjointed, and peculiar. Determining whether it is a higher calling or a terrifying plummet is not as important to you as finding a way to catch your breath in this new atmosphere. Words fail you to describe the change and your heart can do no better at defining the depth nor height of these emotions. You are crossing the threshold into "the new".

Where in your life are you experiencing new things? Is it a new relationship or the experience of breaking new ground in existing relationships? Perhaps you are stepping into some old pain attempting a new perspective as you heal your mind and body from years of abuse. Are you seeking a spiritual reset or mental shift? I would personally define the word "new" as f***ing terrifying especially as we launch this new business plan and mission of bringing freedom to the masses through our unique coaching method while creating a community where black sheep everywhere can find rest and healing. This is no small task and while the opposition has been very present, the real push-back is coming from me. My own internal battle, a war within, a very scared warrior screaming that it's too hard, too scary, I'll lose too much. This is my body's miraculous way of protecting me. I don't have to tell you that it's a hard thing to step into something new. It brings with it a fear of the unknown, grief over the loss of our former state of being, or relationships left behind. If we're honest with our deepest selves we'd do anything to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, to make a difference in the world. At our core, we desire to conquer the next level of personal growth for the benefit of those who come after us. There is a powerful hope "in the new" that causes the heart to breathe and stretch, spreading its wings maybe for the first time as it prepares to take flight into the vast and beautiful reality of all we have dreamed.
New is exciting for a time but when the fear starts to settle in what should you do? How can one balance the overwhelming newness? We need to have soberness (healthy fear) over the vast reach of our dreams and those we are impacting, the lives we will touch, and perhaps even people we'll never meet. If you find yourself "in the new" and feel like it's overwhelming you, what should you do?
Check your Why - Why of all the things your heart could choose...why this, for what purpose? I've found myself questioning my dream at the most inconvenient times like when I'm getting ready to go on stage to speak about breaking free. The fear even reaches my body sometimes when I'm preparing to guide a group of warriors into freedom through fitness and movement, I get stiff and sore. So...I remind my body, mind, and soul of my why.
Stay Present - Take a few deep breaths and notice. Just notice. No decisions have to be made, you are just observing all that is going on around you. Find pleasure, peace, and comfort in the sensory experience that is all around you. Look for the good.
Stay Grateful - As you discover the good around you take a moment to express gratitude for this specific moment. It will never come again. Be grateful for the beauty of this moment, all you have done to get here, and all that is on the horizon if you take the next step.
Stay You - Within you lies everything you need for this dream to become a reality. Your dream won't happen by hustling it to death. You will be the one that dies and your dream along with it. Hustle forces us into a competition against ourselves that we can't maintain. It pushes and drives us into the ground. We can only work, battle, and win from rest. Rest and stillness lead us into clarity, helping us settle into the acceptance of where we are. It is a place of peace where we make peace with the ongoing struggle and find our truest selves. This ignites a strength and determination to get up from our rest and kick ass.
